ZAP TRAINING GROUP PROGRESSION STANDARDS (Spring 2012)
Swimmers progress at different rates throughout their swim career, but regardless of where they are currently, the ZAP coaches want to ensure that each swimmer is ready for what comes next as they move throughout the ZAP swim team structure. Our goal is long-term success rather than overnight stardom. To make this happen, the coaches keep and carry out the "big picture" vision, the swimmers learn and follow our guidance and then join us as partners, while parents trust that we have their child's best interest at heart, ALWAYS, and support the efforts of the swimmers and coaches.
As much as we enjoy developing fast swimmers, more importantly, we aim to build productive people; swimming just happens to be the means to doing so. Safe and developmentally-appropriate progression will always be our top priority. Swimmers will go through three phases of leadership within each training group throughout their time in our program. We believe that by following the program we have set forth, each swimmer will be afforded the opportunity to grow and mature into thoughtful, hard working, team-minded, and productive leaders both in and out of the pool, who know how to communicate and live authentically. Getting to this point is a journey, and may sometime require them getting out of their comfort zone, but with swimmers, parents and coaches on the same page, we are confident that every swimmer will be able to reach their zenith.
Moving through each group will challenge each swimmer both mentally and physically, and we want to ensure smooth transitions from group to group. By demonstrating they can meet or exceed the following standards set for each group, the swimmers will be well on their way to achieving overall success while experiencing continual improvement.
We want to make sure each swimmer moves at the time is right for them based on personality, demonstrated habits, and current group dynamics. Coaches are constantly monitoring and evaluating swimmers and have final determination as to when a swimmer is ready to transition into the next group.
