2012-13 TEAM STRUCTURE
Swimmer-centered, parent-supported, coach-driven, team-minded...
The Zenith Aquatic Program is a competitive swim team for kids, but is truly a family affair. We are swimmer-centered as our primary purpose is to provide an fantastic environment for kids. We take a long term and methodical approach to building solid, well-rounded swimmers and happy, productive people through competitive swimming. We are parent-supported as measured by the amount of time that the parents devote hosting swim meets and different social events throughout the year. We are coach-driven as our professional coaches are at the helm of the entire program, leading the Z-Force in a fair and objective manner. We are team-minded in that we understand swimmers have different goals and reasons for swimming; our goal is to provide every athlete, regardless of ability, age, or commitment level, a place where they belong and can swim, be challenged and continue to grow personally and athletically, yet the team is the underlying force and if we do what is best for the team we will flourish. Afterall, Together Everyone Achieves More!
For a detailed look at the different levels, please see below.
For the 2012-13 swim year, our team is divided into four areas of focus:
Division l: Pre-competitive
Division II: Stroke Development
Division III: Building the IM
Division IV: Continuous improvement aka "Kaizen"
Division V: Embracing Agon
TRYOUTS: We prefer to evaluate every swimmer before they register for the swim team so we may place him/her in the group that best suited for them. Check out our "tryouts" link to see when you may drop-in for an evaluation. You may also Click Here to send us an email request for an evaluation.
In order to be successful in our groups, swimmers must be able to seperate from parents and swim 25 yards of unassisted freestyle ("Front Crawl") and backstroke.
Division 1: Fun & Fitness Pre-Competitive Group
This first phase of our program allows swimmers to build a strong base learning and learn proper stroke mechanics in a fun, non-competitive environment. This is great for young swimmers and/or swimmers who need to build confidence before getting into a competitive situation.
Division II: Stroke Development
This first phase of our competitive team allows swimmers to build a strong base learning and practicing proper stroke mechanics. In addition, they learn practice and meet etiquette as well as how to be members of a team.
Training groups in this division are:
•FUNdamentals (12/Under)
• Drills & Skills (12/Under)
• IM Strong 2 (12/Up)
Division III: Building the IM
Swimmers build off the good habits built in FUNdamentals and Drills & Skills, and now develop their individual medley (aka "IM"). Speed also begins to play a role in all strokes. Importance is also placed on work ethic and goals setting. Self-awareness become important as swimmers begin to relate that what they do in practice to what they do in meets ("Practice makes permanent"). This, in conjuction with the concept of Kaizen (continual improvement), becomes the basis for everything done in these groups. Swimmers in these groups compete in local, duel, tri, RW, BRW, WAG, JAG, and Pacific Committee Championships level competition.
Division IV: Continuous Improvement aka "Kaizen"
Just as the name implies, the focus is continual improvement. Practices continue to be IM based, but the Intensity and commitment requirements increase. Swimmers learn to focus and practice with intention as practice performance becomes more important than ever before. Race strategy, coupled with long term and short term goal setting are emphasized and used to promote agon (Greek for struggle or competition) which swimmers must learn to continue taking their swimming to a higher level. Swimmers in these groups compete in local, duel, tri, BRW, WAG, JAG, Pacific Committee Championships, and Junior Olympic level competition. The groups in this division are:
• IM Kaizen (12/Under)
• IM Kaizen 2 (12-14; non high school)
Division V: Embracing Agon
These high school groups continue the focus on agon/hard work and the struggle of competition. Arete (Greek for excellence) is respected and strived for.
•Agon 1
• Agon 2
• Agon 3
• Arete
